H2G2 random wiki check

" It was not truly clear that the series was over (since it was already a trilogy with five books) until Adams died of a heart attack at age 49 in 2001. Indeed, Adams said that the new novel he was working on, The Salmon of Doubt, was not working as a Dirk Gently story, and suggested it might instead become a sixth book in the Hitchhiker's series. He described Mostly Harmless in an interview as "a very bleak book" and said he "would love to finish Hitchhiker on a slightly more upbeat note". Adams also remarked that if he were to write a sixth instalment, he would at least start with all the characters in the same place. "

HOW COULD YOU DOUGLAS ADAMS? HOW COULD YOU JUST DIE?????
NO NOOOOOO I HATE YOU I HATE YOU

i bet Marvin came along and depressed you into it. but thats no reason to die! (???)
Eoin Colfer's gonna write it for us.
Please ensure he does a good job or we'll slam him

Of three and chickens

Numbers, i think you would agree, are properties of things.

If numbers are properties of things, what then, are they properties of?

There are three chickens. What is the number 3, property of?

The chicken? No.Each chicken is one.
The chickens? No, that'll be the group of them, and a group is one single entity. [eg, a flock of birds]

So unless you can decide on what 3 is property of, you cannot associate 3 with the chickens.

... Which would make the phrase "three chickens" crazy, and impossible.

And, there would be no such thing as "three chickens".

Which, anyone would say, there is.

How now?

Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you, for you

As years go by I race the clock with you
But if you died right now
You know that I'd die too
I'd die too

We'll make the same mistakes
I'll take the fall for you

I hope you need this now
Cause I know I still do

Ethics

taken off wiki

"The trolley problem is a thought experiment in ethics, first introduced by Philippa Foot."

HA.foot! what a last name!

" The problem is this:
A trolley is running out of control down a track. In its path are 5 people who have been tied to the track by a mad philosopher. Fortunately, you can flip a switch which will lead the trolley down a different track to safety. Unfortunately, there is a single person tied to that track. Should you flip the switch?
"

nice eh?

"The initial trolley problem becomes more interesting when it is compared to other moral dilemmas. "

The fat man
One such is that offered by Judith Jarvis Thomson:
As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by dropping a heavy weight in front of it. As it happens, there is a very fat man next to you - your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed?
]

"Resistance to this course of action seems strong; most people who approved of sacrificing one to save five in the first case do not approve in the second sort of case. This has led to attempts to find a non-relevant moral distinction between the two cases. "

which is wrong-er?

" ...argues that an essential difference between the original trolley problem and this version with the fat man, is that in the first case, you merely deflect the harm, whereas in the second case, you have to do something to the fat man to save the five. Thomson says that in the first case, nobody has any more right than anyone else not to be run over, but in the second case, the fat man has a right not to be pushed in front of the trolley."

what?
i would think the pushing act is wronger
the person, in being tied to the track, would be mentally prepared
the fat man isn't.
but how is being mentally prepared a good distinction for wrong or wronger?
should we be analyzing what each of them has done in there lives to decide?

then again, hows a trolley supposed to kill? substitute it with a train i say.

Transplant

" Here is an alternate case, due to Thompson, containing similar numbers and results, but without a trolley:

A brilliant transplant surgeon has five patients, each in need of a different organ, each of whom will die without that organ. Unfortunately, there are no organs available to perform any of these five transplant operations. A healthy young traveler, just passing through the city the doctor works in, comes in for a routine checkup. In the course of doing the checkup, the doctor discovers that his organs are compatible with all five of his dying patients. Suppose further that if the young man were to disappear, no one would suspect the doctor.

As rare as it is to find someone who does not think we should turn the trolley, it is even rarer to find someone who thinks it is permissible for the doctor to murder this patient and harvest his organs. "

how about that this five people are gonna die really soon (as with the trolley case) and this man is their only chance?do you murder?
although the case is just the same, saving 5 by sacrificing 1, most who had opted flicking the switch would, however, express disgust with this similar option of murdering the traveller.

and they would be hypocrites.

"If intuitions about quantum black holes are correct, then close to the Planck mass the number of possible quantum states of the black hole is expected to become so few and so quantised that its interactions are likely to be quenched out. It is possible that such Planck-mass black holes, no longer able either to absorb energy gravitationally like a Classical black hole because of the quantised gaps between their allowed energy levels, nor to emit Hawking particles for the same reason, may in effect be stable objects. "
